Dr Kelvin Tan Guoping is a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Singapore Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic (SSOC), specialising in hip and knee conditions. He provides comprehensive care for patients with arthritis, sports injuries and joint degeneration, focusing on effective pain relief and restoring mobility through both non-surgical and surgical solutions.
With advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery, Dr Tan is highly skilled in robotic-assisted joint replacement and complex revision (re-do) operations. He routinely manages challenging cases such as failed hip replacements, congenital hip dysplasia and fractures around joint implants, and is trained in the modern Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) for total hip replacement, which enables faster recovery.
At SSOC, Dr Tan integrates robotics and computer navigation to enhance surgical precision and optimise implant positioning. He performs both total and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacements, customising each plan to the patient's age, activity level and lifestyle goals.
Before joining SSOC, Dr Tan helped establish Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways for knee replacement at Tan Tock Seng Hospital — initiatives that reduced post-operative pain, shortened hospital stays and got patients moving sooner.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Kelvin Tan teaches medical students, mentors young surgeons and presents at local and international conferences. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NUS, and his work in robotic joint replacement and hip and knee surgery has been published in respected international peer-reviewed journals.
