About Dr. Jeffrey Tan

Dr Jeffrey Tan Gek Meng is a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Singapore Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic (SSOC). His practice centres on lower limb reconstruction, with a subspecialty focus on the foot and ankle — an area where small structural problems change the way a whole limb loads, and where the right operation depends on getting the diagnosis exactly right.

He treats the full range of foot and ankle problems: sports and overuse injuries, tendon disorders, flat foot, bunions, arthritis, trauma, complex deformity correction and the diabetic foot. Alongside these he manages major fractures, fractures around joints and osteoporotic fractures.

Dr Tan graduated with an MBBS from the National University of Singapore and obtained his postgraduate qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He completed advanced subspecialty training and a surgical fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Toronto Western Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

Before entering private practice he was a Senior Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he built up the foot and ankle reconstruction service and developed the hospital's ankle arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques. He chaired the hospital's Wound Committee from 2011 to 2017 and was closely involved in its multidisciplinary diabetic limb salvage programme, while sharing a high-volume load of complex orthopaedic trauma and general orthopaedics.

Teaching has run alongside the clinical work throughout. Dr Tan has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, examining in the final MBBS examinations and teaching both medical students and junior doctors.
