What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is its own treatment for a lingering injury, or pain resulting from illness. You don’t need painkillers with it – the purpose of the therapy is to trigger the body’s own natural healing response. Many people report that their pain is reduced and mobility improved after the first treatment.

How long does it take for shockwave therapy to work?

Most will have noticeable to significant improvement by the thirteenth week. A second treatment after sixteen weeks may be necessary in approximately 20% of patients. As it took time to create the injury, healing also takes time. Total healing of the area can take up to one year.

What are the side effects of shockwave therapy?

Side effects from ESWT are limited to mild bruisingswellingpainnumbness or tingling in the treated area, and the recovery is minimal compared with that of surgical intervention.

What should you not do after Shockwave?

Even if you have no pain after treatment it is strongly recommended that you refrain from any activity that stresses the treated area for 48 hours after each treatment. You will be able to drive immediately after the treatment.
